Walden

(90 minutes or 45 minutes)

Walden in rehearsal: "Fishing at night". Augustine Ripa, Director

Drawn directly from Thoreau’s text. With live flute accompaniment.

It being over 150 years since Henry, aged 27, retreated to the woods “to settle himself, and work,” the cause of his concerns are still very much with us, and in many cases, have only waxed more grievous.  The voice you hear on stage is not only his or that of the actor.  It is, perhaps, the eternal, innocent soul of mankind itself, longing for truth, freedom…reality.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for what you did last night.  Whatever it was.  Like the repose of Nature herself, it didn’t stop last night and won’t stop anytime in the future.” –Ken Burak, Philosophy, Northampton College
